  3.     The late pianist Vladimir Horowitz first appeared in Tokyo
  4. in 1983 (MILESTONES, Nov. 20). His poor performance made many
  5. people wish he had come when he was younger. One critic called
  6. him "a cracked antique." The story could have ended there. But
  7. on his second visit to Japan, in 1986, another, far better
  8. Horowitz appeared. If there are miracles, that was one. But as
  9. he once said, "What's important is contrast."
